DPF Myths & Legends...

DPF's. How to clean? When to clean? How do you drive a vehicle with a DPF? The fact is, none of it should matter. In fact, you don't really need to know your vehicle has a DPF at all...

Short Journeys Block DPF's

No, they don't. Short journeys do not necessarily cause your DPF to block. Short journeys can lead to failed regens (regeneration is when the engine's ECU puts the DPF through its cleaning process); nothing particularly sinister in that but multiple failed regens will lead to heavily contaminated oil, and an overfilled oil sump.

I Don't Drive On Motorways

No problem! The DPF in your vehicle should just work, and it doesn't matter how or where a vehicle is driven, or who's driving it. If a vehicle needs to regenerate, and it can, it will just get on and do it.

Apparently I Have To Drive On The Motorway at 4000rpm in 4th

Er...no you don't. As mentioned before, if a vehicle wants to regen and it can, it will do. There is nothing a driver can do (or put in the tank) that will make a vehicle regenerate if it doesn't want to. The process is entirely controlled by the vehicles ECU.

Off Car Cleaning Is Better Than On Car Cleaning

This way is better than that way...etc. It really doesn't matter. You can choose on car cleaning, off car cleaning, you could even replace it. If you haven't fixed the reason why the DPF was blocked in the first place, it's blocking again.
